Sometimes nurses assistants and aides, need to go through very intense training before they become a certified nursing assistants and they also have to take a CNA Certification test to be certified.
First, you need to go through training courses that have been approved by the state of where you are living or have chosen to work in. This training is generally around 75 hours: 51 or so of these hours are done in the classroom and remaining 24 hours are taking care of a living person in a health care facility.
Coursework for the CNA Certification Test
Once the coursework has been completed, you will need to fill in some paperwork, that will then need to be filed by the State Board of Nursing and by the students instructor. For you to become a certified assistant, you will need to pass exams (CNA certification test) that are both hands on and written and these will be given to you by the State Board of Nursing.
What to Expect with the CNA Certification Test
When you take the CNA Certification test, you may find it a bit nerve-wracking, but knowing what you can expect may take some of that nervousness away.
You will need to have your testing notice delivered to your address, so this will most likely have a waiting period. This notice will be able to tell you when you can take your CNA Certification test.
During that time you will receive the date for taking the CNA Certification test, you should practice the hands-on part of the exam. This test will generally look at selected skills that a CNA must be able to do. You should prepare, by taking temperatures, making beds: with either people in them or out and you should also take a persons blood pressure. Having friends and family members will be beneficial to you during this period as it will help you get use to what you will need to do during the CNA certification test.
The written part of the CNA Certification test is generally done first. In most test cases, there will multiple choice questions that will need to be answered and the test will most likely have 100 questions. This part of the CNA Certification test will take at least 1 to 2 hours, this too will also depend on your speed.
Once you have finished the CNA certification test, you will still have to remain seated, with the paper faced down on the desk. Your exams will then be collected by the instructor. Then individually, you will be asked to perform the hands on part of the test. What you will actually need to do wont be known to you, until you get the paper that lists them during the CNA certification test.
It is important to remember that, you should always wash your hands before proceeding and introduce yourself to the patient. Having communication between yourself and the patient is very important, so be mindful not to leave this part out when you are in the exam.
You should perform your ‘skills’ part of the CNA Certification test as best as you can. If there is a part of the exam where you are aware that you have done something wrong, then you should say that you want to do it again.
This can be done again, only if you stop that part of the skills that you are doing, and you need to do this before the skill tasks has ended.
